The Story of Kazimierz
Kazimierz lies in Lublin province, in powiat puławski, upon Vistula River in the western part of plateau Nałęczowski.
It is very popular place with outstanding tourist and holiday values. Thanks to attractive localisation, rich history, unique landscape, wonderful architecture and good climatic conditions –it is known in the country and in the whole world.
In the city centre you can admire the whole complex of renaissance tenements – and from the Tower, the ruins of the castle and the Three Crosses you can see that the buildings of the city alongside with a beautiful landscape make a harmonic entity.
The environment of the vicinity of the city and whole district supports many rare flora and fauna species. In 1979 National Park in Kazimierz was appointed for protection of those values, which embraces the whole district. There are many tourist trails which encourage to hike and admire the landscape.
In tourist season in Kazimierz Dolny there are many prestigious parties, such as all-Poland Folk Band and Folk Singer Festival, Summer Music Nights in Parish Church in Kazimierz, Old Car Rally, Film Festival and many others cultural – artistic events.
Worth seeing:
- Parish church John's the Baptist and Bartholomew's the Apostle – built in 1586-1589 with Mannerist and baroque fittings and the oldest kept in Poland organ in larch frame (1620)
- St. Anne's Church and hospital for poor people – built in the17th century
- the Annunciation Church and The Reformer Monastery – built in the17th century
- castle in Kazimierz Dolny – ruins of down castle from the16th century
- fortified tower – kept from upper castle from the14th century
- tenements (by the Market Place) with Mannerist design from about 1615 that belong to Przybył brothers:
- St. Nicholas (restored after Second World War by Józef Gosławski)
- St. Christopher
- Gdańsk tenement (by the market place) with baroque façade
- White tenement (in the Senatorska Street)
- Celejowska tenement (in the Senatorska Street), converted before 1630 by Bartholomew Celej, nowadays there is a department of Nadwiślańskie Museum
- the granary upon theVistula River
- wooden houses from the18th and the19th century
- the synagogue in Kazimierz Dolny
